After the graduate, they'll continue to carry on their inferiority complex about not getting into USC or a UC and disassociate themselves from the school altogether. Sports can change that.
That may have been the case in the past but LB is fairly competitive to get into and it will only get harder to get into with us being such low cost school but also with the limited classes at all levels, JC, CSUs and UCs. Before people would go to LB because it was close and that's about it. Now, I think you have more sense of pride of going to Long Beach because they had to beat out a lot of other students that want to be here. Part of it is Maxsons Scholars program but part of it is the economics of what is going on. So going forward, these students will be more committed to the school, more supportive and be proud they went to Long Beach.
So this is the perfect time to enhance our athletic program because it will stick with them when they get out of school and it will mean more donations later on when they go out and make it big or at least in a position to give back to the university. It's like they market beer before the kids are even old enough to drink. You know most have a preference even before they turn 21. Well, we need to imprint that LB loyalty before they graduate. Trying so after is a waste of time.
Basically, take care of the seeds now so they can bear fruit later. Even if it means 10-20 years down the road.
