The reason a new conference would never fly in basketball is that the only chance a team from that conference has to get to the dance is as an at large selection-- If you check the NCAA website you will find that the 31 automatic bids can not be increased unless the other 31 existing conferences agree to allow another automatic bid and hence an additonal play-in game-- (so you can't even reach the play-in game stage without the other conferences agreeing-- FAT chance of that happening)--
The other issue I find amusing is that LBS, based on last years figures, is 6th in the conference in athletic dept spending-- I appreciate the fact the new pres may increase funding (I hope so) but its a bit comical that a school who is behind the norm in stepping up is suddenly suggesting its too good for the conference.
