Well, it is the Big West | #1
|
You don't really need a small forward; most teams just use two off guards.

SF should be Johnson | #2 | ||

Brandon Johnson should be a SF but will probably be relegated to PF duties.

Johnson (SF/PF?)... | #3
|
...I actually like Brandon at the PF position. He doesn't carry a whole lot of weight (215 lbs.) to be a banger but should be able to handle Big West competition well. In OOC he will have quite a lot of help from both Freeman (235 lbs.) and Fleming (240lbs.).
I absolutely love Island's game. He is my ideal SF. At 6'5" and 200 lbs., physically Island is very well set for your typical college 3. Lazdauskas the same, he is not a 4 but a 3. Besides, I would expect the signing of another post player soon to help Johnon, Freeman and Fleming. 05/16/07 12:54 PM |

Sounds like PG will be the only real issue, as Plater adjusts to D-1 play.
What are your thoughts on Gant? Can he give Dan solid minutes a game as Plater is getting used to D-1 ball? Or is a walkon PG in our future for this upcoming season. 05/16/07 6:57 PM |

Plater... | #5 | ||
|
...I expect Plater to start. Gant is a serviceable guard. Monson's offense does not use players in the traditional position roles. Plater better be ready to play defense though. I'm feeling better about this signing after speaking with others. Waiting to hear about a post player. That should be our last signing.

Oracle, that is a thought. And Regis. If a good enough 6-8+ guy is still around to be signed, get him on board. And surely we can find some decent walkons with pg skills, get one on board for insurance.
Island is a solid 3. He knows how to slash to the hoop, and can spot up outside. He's athletic enough and has enough arm length to control guys a couple inches taller, and he already seems to have a good feel for the game. Laz, if he hit the weight room, I see him as a tweener 3 or 4 which would be great for this team, he could get plenty of minutes spotting up both sides. He rebounds very well and also has nifty offensive moves, and seems like he really gets the nuances of the game. Needs some defensive work although I noticed it got better as he got more minutes. 05/16/07 7:49 PM |

I think we're all ready to see some defense after that 121-86 abomination on March 16, and the 2nd half meltdown in the Hawaii game back in February.
Even though Vic probably had his mind made up already, that game had to be the final straw, especially hearing that Reynolds expected Nixon to guard 2 players. 05/16/07 8:46 PM |
